About Excelsa Cedar

Excelsa Cedar is a lovely, bushy tree that grows tall for extra high privacy. The Excelsa Cedar, which is typically suitable for semi-rural to urban settings, is a very natural-looking cedar tree indigenous to the Pacific Northwest. Exclesa Cedars can start small and be let to grow to fill for privacy, or they can be planted at a bigger size for instant privacy. These trees can also be let to grow naturally for a rugged look or they can be pruned nicely into a hedge.

  • Mature Height: Up to 30-35 ft
  • Mature Width: Up to 15 ft

  • Soil: Most/wet soil tolerant
  • Growth Rate: Medium/fast, about 2-3' a year, all depending on the growing conditions

  • Watering: We recommend these be watered carefully through the first spring/summer especially as newly-planted tree. Note that not much growth occurs the first year as the tree is initially develops its root system.
  • Comments: These trees tend to bronze during the winter months, much like all cedars, which is normal. Cedar blight may also occur which is not completely detrimental but can affect how they look. This typically occurs during extended periods of wet weather. Exclesa Cedar can be left to grow natural for a rugged look or they may be pruend on sides and top to create a hedge.
